Most four-year colleges require the SAT I be taken as a prerequisite for admission.

Juniors plan on taking the January or March SAT.
Students can register for the SAT online or mail in a paper registration form, available in the Guidance Office. Further information is also available at Collegeboard.com.

PSAT

New! The preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test will be given on October 15, 2008. This test is given once a year! All sophomores and juniors will take this test during the school day as preparation for the SAT. Ninth graders, with the appropriate mathematics level who wish to take the test may come to the guidance office to register. Registration for ninth graders begins on Sept. 25th.

The PSAT is a multiple-choice test that measures critical reading skills, math
problem- solving skills and writing skills important for success in college
.
The score of the juniors is used as qualifying information for the National Achievement Scholarship Program and the National Merit Scholarship Program
for Outstanding Black Students.


Students are to bring a calculator and 2 number two pencils to the test.The test
will take approximately two and a half hours plus 40 minutes for administration. Students who receive special accommodations for test administration need to see Ms. Millen as soon as school begins. Check to make certain that the paper work for your testing accommodations is complete and accurate.

ACT

The ACT is accepted by most Maryland state schools and required by some
schools in other parts of the country. This test tends to reward students for accumulated knowledge.

SAT- PSAT PREP COURSE
Register now !
Soon students will take the PSAT and the SAT. College- bound
students usually take the SAT again in the fall of their senior year. This course helps prepare students for these important examinations.

Dates: Thursdays: April 10, 17, 24 & May 1, 2008 (7-9:15 pm)

Please register early, as space is very limited. Results have been EXCELLENT!
Parents: This is a REAL OPPORTUNITY you don’t want your son or daughter to miss. This course supplements our curriculum and will focus on improving test-taking skills, tips for answering each type of question, a math review, vocabulary development, essay writing, and building confidence.

Fee: $185 (includes tuition, materials & $25 non-refundable registration fee.) The course is open to students from any high school. A portion of the fee benefits your school.

Instructors:
Dr. Martha Gagnon and/or her instructional team. Dr. Gagnon
has been offering this course for more than a decade. Dr. Gagnon is the former
Dean of Admissions at Western Maryland College ( McDaniel College). She was Director of Admissions at Loyola College. She held the position of Staff Consultant
to the College Board (makers of the SAT and PSAT) for 18 years. Currently she maintains a private practice in Howard Co, specializing in test preparation and college placement.
