Monday, July 16, 2007 was an historic day for the Hammond High School community. On that day,
the first Teen Summit for School Improvement was held on the campus of Hammond High School. In attendance were committed, energetic, and excited student leaders, staff members, as well as strong
supporters from our community. They put their energies into sharing what they thought we should
do as a school community to move our great school toward becoming a phenomenal school.

Many of the students continued in leadership
roles by participating in the Principal's Advisory Council
, which is charged with keeping Principal Burke informed of the issues that most concern the students of Hammond High School. Representing
the Principal's Advisory Council is the Principal's Advisory Council Executive Board of students
who meet regularly throughout the school year
with Mr. Burke to discuss the Advisory Council's concerns.

The information that was generated during the
day had a very positive impact on Hammond High School improvements for the 2007-2008 school year. An after school study program was developed, a
new marquee was ordered and installed, and new lockers were purchased and installed as a direct
result of the 2007 Teen Summit.

The 2008 Teen Summit for School Improvement, held on June 23, continued the tradition that was begun with the first Teen Summit. Once again, committed and energetic students gave positive
input on several topics that will ultimately impact
the entire study body, faculty and staff at
Hammond High School. Several members of the
2007-08 Principal's Advisory Council acted as facilitators along with Hammond High staff and members of the community.

Topics discussed were appropriate dancing, on
time arrival to school, how to improve the percentage of students eligible for extracurricular activities, persistent classroom disruptions by students, and what assistance students need from the school to
help them achieve the “Maryland Technology
Literacy Standards for Students”.

Many positive improvements and programs are
sure to result
from the efforts of so many student leaders, Hammond High staff, and community members dedicated to moving Hammond High
School from a great to a phenomenal school in the
2008-09 school year and beyond!
