Social Studies Department Overview

The high school social studies program
is designed to integrate knowledge and
skills from history and the social sciences into a comprehensive instructional
sequence.

The overall goal is to prepare students for
the responsibilities of citizenship. The content includes knowledge of democratic
government, the dignity and self worth
of the individual, and equality of
opportunity.

The curriculum reinforces specific social
studies skills introduced at the elementary
and middle school years. Among these are
geographic skills, social science research
skills, critical thinking skills, and both
individual and group problem solving
skills.
